Lesotho Mission within Semokong and Roma in the landlocked country of Lesotho. It is a country completely surrounded by its only neighbouring country, South Africa, and is aptly referred to as the Kingdom in the Sky.
Ferdie and Lulu Visser are fulltime missionaries there, establishing strong local churches, running a Bible college and working with shepherds and orphans.
Lesotho Mission has sponsorship opportunity in 2 different areas:
Mohale Groups (Hero Groups)
Almost a quarter of Lesotho’s populations are Orphans and vulnerable children. Through this program we reach more than 1000 orphans and vulnerable children, ministering to them in groups that are run mostly at schools. Through play therapy and giving psychosocial support we help these children to work through emotional trauma, do grieve counselling, help them to build a healthy self-esteem and teach them how to handle negative emotions in a healthy way. Contributing to this program will ensure that children will be assisted in working through grief and will also be taught that in the midst of it all God still has a plan and a purpose for them.
Children needing support: 1000 children
Cost per child: R100 per month
This program is for shepherds between the ages of 13 – 25 and is run in the evenings, Monday to Friday. After putting their livestock in the kraal, these boys walk up to 10km to the Shepherd school where they are taught basic literacy (Sesotho), Mathematics and English. After the class, the children are also given a warm meal. Contributing to this program will ensure that the children receive a basic education and a chance to get a better work and a better future.
Shepherds needing support: 20 Shepherds
Cost per Shepherd: R200 per month
